National Library Legislative Day
Draws 450 Advocates to D.C.

Nearly 450 librarians, trustees, and library advocates took part in the 24th annual National Library Legislative Day, held May 5 in Washington, D.C. Participants visited senators and representatives in their offices to inform them about library appropriations, the universal-service telecommunications discounts, pending copyright legislation, revision of the Depository Library Program, and other issues.

The morning opening session was highlighted by the presentation of the Friends of Libraries USA's public service awards to U.S. Reps. Rod Blagojevich (D-Ill.) and John Porter (D-Ill.), and the day was capped by a reception in the caucus room of the Cannon House Building.

The event was sponsored by the ALA Washington Office, the District of Columbia Library Association, and other organizations. Full coverage will run in the June/July issue of American Libraries.
